Who we are
Kzoo Makers is a volunteer-run, nonprofit community workshop in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This statement explains what personal information we collect through kzoomakers.org, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us through the Contact page on this site.
Information we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and, if you choose to set one, a password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form). Admins may also sign in with Google.
- Tour requests: your name, a phone number or email address, the time you picked, the areas you are interested in, and messages exchanged with us about your visit.
- Membership and onboarding: your application details, emergency contact, a photo of your government-issued ID, your member photo, skills and chore history, and the signed membership waiver (including your signature, the date and the IP address it was signed from).
- Messages and submissions: contact-form messages, reviews, blog comments and likes, and class sign-ups or proposals.
- Email updates: your email address and the lists you belong to, plus whether you opened or clicked links in our emails.
- Technical information: for every request to the site we record your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested and the page you came from. When you click a link that leaves our site we also record your screen size.
How we use your information
We do not sell your information, and we do not show advertising.
- To run the makerspace: scheduling tours, approving and onboarding members, tracking chores and tool access, and keeping the membership waiver on file.
- To communicate with you: replying to messages, sending sign-in links, tour confirmations and reminders, and, if you subscribed, our email updates.
- To keep the site safe and working: preventing abuse and spam, limiting repeated sign-in attempts, finding errors, and understanding which pages and links are used.
- To meet our obligations as an organization, such as keeping signed waivers.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies that are needed to keep you signed in and to protect the site. We do not use advertising cookies. Some pages may include content from other services (for example embedded maps or videos), which may set their own cookies under their own policies.
Who we share it with
Only people who need it to run the makerspace (our volunteer admins and board, within the access they have been given) can see personal information. We rely on service providers to host the site, store files and deliver email and notifications; they handle data only on our behalf. We may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the safety of our members and visitors.
How long we keep it
- Website request logs are kept for a limited rolling period, after which the oldest records are deleted automatically.
- Link-click counts are kept as daily totals; the individual click details are deleted over time.
- Tour, membership, waiver and account records are kept while you are a member or visitor and for as long afterward as we need them for safety, legal and record-keeping purposes.
- Email subscribers stay on our lists until they unsubscribe.
Security
We protect information with access controls, encrypted connections and hashed passwords, and we limit who can open sensitive items such as ID photos and signed waivers. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, subject to records we need to keep. You can unsubscribe from email updates at any time using the link in any email. To make a request, contact us through the Contact page.
Children
Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Minors participate in makerspace activities only as our membership policies allow.
