NEWSLETTER September, 2020
From KII Board President Al Hollaway
Welcome to the new era of Kzoo Makers in the time of covid. I hope this finds all of you well, and eager to get back to Making.
We are open, with the appropriate precautions, and you are welcome to come to the space.
As you may imagine, the space is in need of some attention following our period of inactivity. You will see that we are planning a “Clean Up Saturday” Sept. 19 from 2-6pm and we hope you will all be willing to stop by and help out for an hour or two.
Any time you can offer to complete one of the tasks we have posted will contribute to the space. Remember that we are all volunteers here and that we do not have a full time staff or custodian.
If you are available to assist with some of the larger projects, please contact Zack or any board member.
Zack is also putting together a Preventative Maintenance Task Force for the woodshop with a focus on periodic maintenance of the machines and education of how they work and the systems inside. He’s looking for about 3 to 5 individuals that would like to help. Please contact Zack to contribute some time to supporting your woodworking area. If you can volunteer an hour or two every other month, that will go a long way towards keeping our woodshop at peak performance.
Financially, we are reasonably stable at this time, and we are looking for more members.
We looked into some of the grant money made available during the pandemic, but found that the requirements included having paid staff that were impacted by the closure. We are an all volunteer organization, and so do not qualify. We are actively seeking other grant opportunities to help us grow.
Thanks for supporting your Kzoo Makers. If you have any ideas or suggestions, all are welcome.
You can reach me at any time at firstname.lastname@example.org
Remember, YOU can make something cool!
LASER CUTTER PROJECT
It would be great to have a second laser system! The laser cutter is kept pretty busy these days and we would like to add a second one. The KII board has approved a matching donation up to $2000 towards the purchase. Please donate to this project, and the KII will match your donations up to $2K. Easy way to double your impact and support the space! Just let any Executive Council member know your donation is for the new laser!

August saw 2 new members join Kzoo Makers bringing us back up to our pre-Covid numbers. Utilities costs are running a little bit higher than expected so lets make sure we are turning lights off and doing whatever we can to try to keep costs low.
